Franz Joseph

We had a long ride from Queenstown, with incredible views of the Southern Alps, New Zealand’s crowning glory.

We were getting very fed up with travelling by coach that we took a break and travelled by jetboat on the Haast river for an hour. The river was glacial as can be seen by the Aquamarine colour which is produced by glacial ‘flour’ ground away from the rock.

In places it was possible to see glaciation and Rain Forest living next door to each other.

Overall a great trip with wonderful scenery and towards the end of the river trip we were treated to 360 degree spins and turns which were breathtaking, and then the boat sped away up river to pick up the next tour.

Final stop before arriving at the town of Franz Joseph was a visit to the Fox Glacier which is very long and this close to the sea is full of rocks and dirty water, no ice at all.

We finally arrive at our hotel, which is very good and dinner is excellent, back to room to download pictures from our cameras.
